Last 2 Simple Steps for Navigating Surrender
Last week we looked at the first two steps of Receptive Surrender (read it here), the second stage of Sacred Success. Now let’s go to the final 2 steps of this stage.
Receiving is something most of us, women in particular, are not very good at. Yet I’ve come to see there’s a direct correlation between our level of success and our ability to receive.
“Every day a thousand treasures come to me with every passing moment.” ~~A Course in Miracles
Our job is to open our eyes, as well as our hearts, to fully receive those copious treasures. Too often we let the distractions of daily life, as well as our yammering Egos, prevent us from noticing what’s being laid at our feet.
There are three steps to receiving: acknowledge, appreciate, and assimilate. When you don’t fully engage in each of the three steps, you starve your Soul.
During my time in Surrender, I began observing how often I glossed over words of praise or gratitude, without really absorbing or appreciating them fully. So, I started what I called a Receiving Journal, separate from my daily journal.
Keeping a Receiving Journal heightens your awareness. It forces you to acknowledge, appreciate, and assimilate the gifts being offered to you every day.
Create your own Receiving Journal where you keep notes of all the treasures that come your way: a flattering mention on Facebook, a kiss on the cheek, a significant insight, or an accurate hunch.
The tricky part is that many gifts come disguised and are easily overlooked.
To receive consciously and unconditionally, you must suspend judgment.
Reframe your challenges. Nothing that happens is “good” or “bad,” “right” or “wrong,” “negative” or “positive.” It is far more valuable to see everything, absolutely everything, as useful information—a sign, a message, a lesson, or a form of Divine communication.
Step 4: Obey the Law of Ownership
In Sacred Success, we take conscious receiving one step further. We must claim what we receive as rightfully ours by obeying the Law of Ownership, which says: Unless you officially own something, it’s not yours to keep. Ownership signifies permanent status.
Otherwise, you’re borrowing, leasing, renting, or caretaking—which implies possession can be taken away.
Greatness requires that we own our worth, our power, our talent, and our truths.
Too many of us devalue ourselves and dismiss our accomplishments, and every time we don’t own our successes—by slipping into self-depreciation, denying a compliment, or refusing to believe we deserve more—we are giving our power away.
Ownership means owning our mistakes and misperceptions, our false beliefs and bad behaviors, along with our talents, skills, and accomplishments—not to beat ourselves up, but to hold ourselves accountable. Everything in our past has made us who we are today.
The more you can appreciate what you have or the progress you’ve made, even if it’s only a teeny-tiny bit, the more Greatness you’ll likely attract.
What happens when our time in Surrender comes to an end. In my next post, I’ll share what happens in Stage 3 of Sacred Success—Disciplined Action.
